2 tablespoons margarine or butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 beef bouillon cubes or 2 teaspoons beef-flavor instant bouillon
2 cups water
1. Melt margarine in small saucepan over medium heat. Add flour; cook until golden brown, stirring constantly.
2. Add all remaining ingredients. Cook until mixture boils and thickens, stirring constantly.
TIP:*One 10 1/2-oz. can condensed beef broth with enough water added to make 2 cups liquid can be substituted for bouillon cubes and water. If desired, use 1/2 cup red wine or dry sherry for part of the water.
