I first got to know Thea several years ago around the time of my daughter's birthday. I was wishing that I could decorate her birthday cake myself. Thea kindly offered to teach me. I learned enough to produce a beautiful cake full of roses, and I made a new friend in the process. Since that time, I've learned so much from Thea that I often tell her she should have her own local radio spot called "Thank you, Thea," in which she offers her practical know-how to a larger audience. Thanks to Thea, my freezer is filled with potential. I've got eight containers of frozen fresh blueberries that are already mixed with the other filling ingredients. When I need a pie, I can simply prepare a fresh crust, toss in the frozen filling and bake. I have six containers of frozen fresh-picked raspberries, which I plan to use in coffee cakes this winter. Thea has solutions to seemingly every problem or situation concerning the home. She sews clothing for her children and herself, and with every leftover piece of fabric that's big enough, she serges a table napkin. Her children enjoy fresh colorful napkins at every meal. When it was time this summer to make 110 pennants for members of the swim team, Thea volunteered to help and serged her way through the donated sheets to create an "awesome" spectacle of team spirit. Thea is a modern woman who gave America Online to her mother so that they can now correspond by E-mail. She regularly corresponds with her mother, her brother, and her sister over the Internet. Thea is a Girl Scout troop leader. She is active in her church. She is the B-team rep. for her children's summer swim team. She volunteers many hours at her children's elementary school.
