Marilyn has always teased us about her having won the "Betty Crocker" award in high school. (She has the statue to prove it!) Marilyn decided to get a pharmacy degree. Her other love, cooking, won over. Marilyn gave up a lucrative salary as a pharmacist to start a small catering service and has owned and operated Marilyn's Flowers and Catering for seventeen years. Having fourteen full-time employees along with five part-time employees can sometimes be a lot. She will sit there and laugh with you when times are at their highest, and she will sit there with her loving arms wrapped around you while you are crying and at your lowest. No wonder most of the employees at Marilyn's have stayed so long.
Marilyn and her husband Ed, an elementary school principal, have been married for twenty-seven years. They have three children. No matter how busy she is, there is always time for her friends, especially when they need her. Not only is Marilyn devoted and committed to her friends, but they feel the same about her. Her eighty-year-old father also lives with her, but she manages to always have time for dear Papaw.
Marilyn was the first woman Rotarian of the Sulphur Rotary Club, becoming president in 1994. She is on the board of the West Calcasieu Chamber of Commerce and the Brimstone Historical Museum. She is an active member of Our Lady Prompt Succor Catholic Church. Several times, Marilyn was awarded the Small Business Award and was nominated for the State of Louisiana Small Business Person of the Year.
Marilyn is always there for anyone that needs her anytime. She is very understanding and very forgiving. She has been not only a great rock to lean on and a very good friend, but most of all, a teacher like no other could be. I have learned many things from her-mostly about life, a lot about work, and most of all, how to make it in this world.
