Writing and cooking are among my favorite pastimes. I am certainly not a professional at either of these but truly enjoy both, I have scoliosis (spine curvature) and have had four major back surgeries, bit I am still able to do many things. Actually, it is because of my scoliosis that I do a lot of writing. I have three pen pals (even one in England) who also have this ailment, and we compare our progress and treatment. I am fifty-three years old, very happily married for almost thirty-four years, have two grown children (a son and daughter), am a grandmother to two little boys, and have been a homemaker all of our married life. My husband and I both grew up in small towns, and family life and quality time are very important to us. We never had a lot of extras, but we had everything that we consider important-lots of love and time spent with our children. We always had meals together, vacationed together, and enjoyed being a family. Our children mention these good times often, even to this day. To us, this is true wealth! Over the years. I have come to truly love all aspects of cooking. My husband still chuckles about when we first got married, my main accomplishment was gelatin. My very favorite cookbook is Betty Crocker's New Good and Easy, 1962 (a great year-the year of our marriage). I volunteer in the Physical Therapy Department of our local nursing home and am active in our neighborhood civic association. The bulk of my time is now spent with the "Shepherds," a caring ministry of laity at our church. I have been chairperson for almost nine years now since it was organized. We are very active in many other ways in our church, and cooking is a big part of many gatherings. Just this past week, the ladies made apple pies and dumplings as a fund-raiser for our women's group. I am one of the "resident crust makers." From "Betty Crocker's Best-Loved Recipes."
