I have always enjoyed cooking and baking and found cooking for our family (and they my own) fun and rewarding. My family loves holiday meals. Cookies always have been theirs-and my-favorites: snickerdoodles (Betty Crocker's recipe), old-fashioned ice-box, and of course chocolate chip and peanut butter. I preferred staying home, so I did child care in my home, caring for seventeen children, plus my own two, every day for over five years. I decided at that point I needed more time for myself and the family, so I took a job as Christian education director and youth advisor for twenty-eight teenagers at my church! I thoroughly enjoyed working with the volunteer teaching staff, but my joy was my energetic, winsome, loving "kids." After almost four years I went back to child care, this time with a twist: foster care. Over the next ten years we cared for twenty-one children, mostly long term (two to five years); I cared for friends' children, too. The children were involved in a myriad of school activities, so somewhere along the line I became involved: room mother, Title I representative, district Boy Scout advisory board, PTA president, and Girl Scout leader (for twelve years) We were fortunate to be welcomed into a small, friendly Presbyterian church were the kids and I became involved. When my children reached middle school age, I returned to university after twenty-five years. Today, I am busy with the Women's Association, vacation Bible school, choir, and other activities.
