Betty Comerford, a friend and co-worker, truly personifies the Betty Crocker of today. Betty manages to balance her time between family, work, and community while always keeping time for cooking and baking. I can't think of anyone who loves to be in the kitchen cooking and baking more than Betty, something she's loved since she was a child and has now passed on to her three children. Betty was brought up by a mother who loved to be in the kitchen. When Betty was fourteen years old, her mother passed away, and she immediately took over full responsibility for cooking and baking all the meals for her father and four older brothers. But her passion for cooking didn't stop there. She was awarded the grand champion of the fair with her Cinnamon Rolls three years straight, taking many of her entries on to the state fair. Her love of cooking and baking continued into college, where she majored in home economics education. While student teaching, she developed new classes such as bachelor living-convincing young men to take interest in the practical side of home economics and learn how to cook, clean, and decorate. And even today, with her three children, she makes time to cook and bake. She has made it an annual event to spend all day Christmas Eve making her homemade cinnamon rolls and delivering them to her friends' houses that evening, all prepared but unbaked so they can be baked on Christmas morning filling all the houses with the wonderful aroma of homemade baked goods. She has even made it a priority to take off from work to go to her child's school to bake with the class. She's an active member of the Junior League, whose mission is developing programs and projects that benefit children. Also she's been involved in renovating and setting up several after school centers and shelters that benefit underprivileged children.
