4 apples for cooking (medium about 1 1/2 lbs.)
1/2 cup apple juice, unsweetened
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, ground
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg, ground
You can buy unsweetened applesauce now, but there's nothing as good as homemade.
1. Peel, core, and cut apples into wedges; combine apples and apple juice in a saucepan.
2. Cook, uncovered, over medium-low heat 10-15 minutes or until apples are tender, stirring occasionally to break up apples.
3. Stir in spices. Add more water, if needed, to achieve desired consistency. Serve warm or chilled.
Food exchanges per 1/3 -cup serving: 1 ¼ FRUIT
