Jeanne is a wonderful wife (seventeen years) and mother (ten years), but her love and care extend well beyond the family into the community in many ways. Since Jeanne has multiple sclerosis, many things that are normal, everyday events for the rest of us may be impossible for her. So she invents ways to handle them and remain as self-sufficient as possible.
Jeanne's love for cooking was obvious from the start. But one of her crowning achievements is the 550 dozen cookies she baked, in one week, for the cadets studying for final exams at the United States Air Force Academy and for the residents at the Red Cross homeless shelter.
One of Jeanne's greatest "sacrifices" was to take up scuba diving for me. Even though she was so terrified of water, she would not let go of the side of the pool. She did so well, she has also assisted in scuba classes and does particularly well with students who are afraid of the water.
Jeanne is a master gardener. She is a retired registered nurse (the multiple sclerosis forced a permanent, total disability retirement) and has been a Red Cross first-aid and CPR instructor as well as a much requested spokesperson for our United Way campaigns. She also does educational presentations in the elementary schools pertaining to plants, the ocean, and preserving the reefs. Jeanne also does special educational events for our adopted Chinese daughter's class, including Chinese New Year and Moon Festival parties complete with lo mein and other treats.
