1 tablespoon plain gelatin
1/4 cup cold water
3 cups milk
1/2 cup sugar
3 egg yolk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 egg whites
Soften plain gelatin in cold water. Meanwhile, scald milk in top of double boiler. Add sugar and gelatin; stir until dissolved. Beat eggs slightly. Add a bit of hot mixture to egg yolks; then return to double boiler and cook until mixture coats a spoon. Remove from heat; add salt and vanilla. Beat egg whites until stiff; fold in eggs. Pour into mold and chill.
