This rum cocktail has been a common drink in Mexico City and other major cities in Mexico for a long time, and it is still offered in upscale bars and restaurants.
2 jiggers white rum
1 ounce vermouth
1 teaspoon grenadine syrup
Juice of 1 lime
3/4 cup cracked ice (see Note below)
Put all of the ingredients in a blender or cocktail shaker. Shake well and pour equally into 2 (4-ounce) stemmed cocktail glasses.
NOTE: To crack ice cubes, put them in a heavy plastic bag, remove air from the bag, seal it, then put the bag on a cutting board. With a hammer or heavy rolling pin, gently break cubes into chips.
