* Arriving at her bank to make a deposit, one contestant found, strangely, that her husband was on the phone. He told her to call Pillsbury immediately, and she did, from the bank lobby. Her shrieks of joy resounded through the bank lobby, and she promised to bring her winning dish in for the tellers to taste.
* One contestant without a phone luckily "had her ears on" and learned the good news via a citizens-band message broadcast by her town's postmistress.
* A severe blizzard enveloped one contestant's town during notification and the contestant's phone was out. Pillsbury contacted another finalist who lived in the same town; she was so excited that she drove across town in the storm and scaled a snowdrift to deliver the news.
