The nineteenth Bake-Off® Contest saw the introduction of refrigerated fresh dough as a contest category, mirroring changes in the way Americans were cooking. Who had time anymore to spend a day wrestling with pastry? The next year, Magic Marshmallow Crescent Puffs won the grand prize and became the "little black dress" of desserts: easy to make, always appropriate, a crowd pleaser. It's said that the hardest thing to achieve is simplicity, but these puffs are the exception to the rule.
