Jazz great Louis Armstrong signed his letters "Red beans and ricely yours," because the dish was so close to his heart. Red beans and rice is a dish that, if you grew up on it, is fiercely adored comfort food. Del Tinsley has long known the value of simple recipes in a busy kitchen. "From the time I started walking," she says, "I followed Nana (my grandmother) around the kitchen like a little puppy dog. I never thought I couldn't cook, I just imitated her." From underfoot Del learned how to make dinner, with love.
