2 cups milk
2 cups cold water
2 yeast cakes
1 cup warm water
1/3 cup shortening
1/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon salt
10 to 12 cups flour
Scald milk. Add cold water. Dissolve yeast cakes in warm water; add to milk. Add shortening, sugar, and salt. Add flour. Mix and knead until elastic. Let rise until doubled; punch down. Let rest 10 minutes; then shape into loaves in greased pans. Let rise again and bake at 400°F for 40 minutes.
