Fruit And Dumplings

Serves: 6

   2 cups blueberries, apples, peaches, or cherries
   1/2 cup water
   1/2 cup sugar
   1 1/2 cups flour
   2 teaspoons baking powder
   2 teaspoons grated orange zest
   1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
   1/4 teaspoon salt
   3/4 cup milk
   Cream or ice cream


Pour fruit into a skillet. Stir water and sugar into mixture; cook until mixture bubbles; lower heat. Mix flour, baking powder, orange zest, nutmeg and salt together. Stir in milk until moistened. Drop dough by spoonfuls onto hot fruit. Cover and cook for about 15 minutes until dough is puffed. May be served with cream or ice cream.
