Apple Dumplings

Serves: 6

Print this Recipe


   2 cups flour
   1 teaspoon salt
   2 teaspoons baking powder
   3/4 cup shortening
   1/2 cup milk
   6 apples, each pared, cored, sliced
   Sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg mixture
   Chunks of butter
   2 cups sugar
   2 cups water
   1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
   1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
   1/4 cup butter, melted
   Cream


Mix together flour, salt, baking powder, shortening, and milk; roll to 1/4-inch thick and cut into six 5-inch squares. Place an apple on each square. Sprinkle with sugar mixture; dot with chunks of butter. Fold opposite corners and pinch. Place 1-inch apart in greased baking pan. Mix together sugar, water, cinnamon, nutmeg, and butter and pour over dumplings. Bake at 375°F for 35 minutes. Serve hot with cream.
