6 to 8 medium apples, peeled, quartered
1/2 cup water
1/2 to 3/4 cup sugar or firmly packed brown sugar
1 to 2 tablespoons red cinnamon candies or 1 teaspoon cinnamon
1. In large saucepan, combine apples and water.* Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 15 to 20 minutes or until apples are tender, stirring occasionally.
2. Stir in sugar and candies; mix well. Cook until mixture is thoroughly heated and candies are dissolved, stirring occasionally.
3. Ladle mixture into clean jar or moisture-vaporproof containers. Cool 15 minutes. Cover with tight-fitting lids. Store in refrigerator.
TIP: * For chunky applesauce, combine sugar and water. Add apples; mix well. Cook as directed above.
