1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon water
2 cups milk
3 eggs
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Put sugar and water into heavy pan; heat until sugar melts; continue stirring until golden brown. Remove from heat and pour into small baking dish. Heat milk. Beat together eggs, sugar, vanilla, and salt. Pour the hot milk slowly into the egg mixture, stirring well; then pour mixture carefully over the caramel mixture. Place baking dish in pan of hot water and bake at 350°F for 45 minutes until custard has set.
