Pork Ribs And Apple-Kraut

   _ cups apple juice
   _ 1-pound cans sauerkraut drained
   _ to 4 pounds pork spare ribs country-style, cut in serving size pieces
   _ apples cored, each sliced in 8 pieces
   ___ cup brown sugar
   _ teaspoon salt
   _ juniper berries
   Freshly ground pepper to taste


Put apple juice in bottom of large, heavy-type cooker or Dutch oven with lid. Put one-third of each ingredient in layers in order given; repeat twice. Bring to boil over high heat. Turn heat down to low and simmer, covered, for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

* Juniper berries are available in specialty grocery stores.
