2 pounds ground beef
1 large onion, diced
1 large green pepper, diced
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 cup chili powder
1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
1 (28-ounce) can stewed tomatoes with liquid
1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
2 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 bay leaf
2 (15 1/2-ounce) cans red kidney beans
Cook beef, onion, pepper, and garlic until beef is well browned. Add chili powder and ground red pepper; cook 1 minute. Stir in tomatoes, tomato paste, salt, and bay leaf; heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally. Drain beans and add. Heat to boiling; then reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes. Skim fat and discard bay leaf.
