2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon ground
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg ground
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup vegetable shortening solid
1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 375°.
In a medium bowl, stir together flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder and salt; set aside.
In a large mixer bowl at medium speed, beat sugar, shortening, butter, egg and vanilla until blended. At low speed, beat in flour mixture until blended (mixture may be slightly crumbly).
On a lightly floured surface, roll half of the dough at a time to 3/16-inch thickness. Dip plastic cutters in flour and cut cookies. Place on an ungreased baking sheet 1 inch apart.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are golden. Cool cookies on wire racks.
Store in an airtight container.
