2 cups water
1 (16-ounce) can grapefruit sections
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups water
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
1. Bring water to a boil. Add grapefruit sections, their syrup and sugar; and heat, stirring. Then add the second quantity of water and heat.
2. Meanwhile blend cornstarch and remaining water to a paste. Then add and bring to the boiling point, stirring until the mixture thickens. Serve hot, in small bowls.
VARIATIONS:
* For the grapefruit sections, substitute either 2 small cans of mandarin oranges or 1 large can of fruit cocktail. Or substitute 2 cups of fresh fruit, diced. (For the latter, use orange or pineapple juice for the first 2 cups of water and add another 1/2 cup sugar in step 1.)
