Rush Hour White Sauce


Serves: 6

Ingredients

1 tablespoon unsalted butter or nondiet margarine
1 1/4 cups low-fat milk (1%)
2 tablespoons instant-mixing flour
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
pinch nutmeg

Directions:

1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and continue cooking, stirring constantly, until it becomes golden brown and fragrant, about 1 minute (watch for burning). Remove from the heat and let cool slightly.

2. Whisk in the milk, flour, onion powder, and nutmeg return to the heat and cook, whisking constantly, until thickened, about 3 minutes.
