1 cup dates
1/2 cup boiling water
1/3 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 1/3 cups flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
2/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Cook dates in boiling water for two minutes; set aside to cool. Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs. Sift flour, cinnamon, cloves, salt, baking powder and soda; add to mixture alternately with milk and vanilla. Bake at 350°F for 40 minutes.
