Pour cake mix into a medium-size mixing bowl cut in butter with a pastry cutter or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside. Spread cherry pie filling into a 13" x 9" lightly greased baking pan arrange cake mixture evenly over the top. Bake at 350 degrees until golden and bubbly, about 35 to 45 minutes. Serve with whipped topping, if desired.
