Navy Bean Soup

Ingredients

1 pound navy beans or Great Northern beans
1 ham hocks large or 2 small smoked
3 potatoes medium sized, cooked and mashed
1/2 cup onion chopped
1 cup celery chopped
1 clove garlic
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Wash the beans, then put them in a large kettle and cover with water. Let them soak overnight. The next morning add enough water to make 5 quarts. Add ham hocks and cook about 2 hours or until beans begin to get done. Add the mashed potatoes, onion, celery and garlic. Remove the ham hocks, cut up the meat and add to soup. Season with salt and pepper.
