Baked Macaroni Loaf

1 onion large, diced
1/2 cup green bell pepper diced
4 1/2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups macaroni barely cooked
1 cup longhorn cheese shredded, sharp Cheddar, or mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup half and half
1/2 cup milk
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
2 tablespoons bread crumbs dry


Heat oven to 325° F. In a medium skillet, sauté onion and green pepper in 3 tablespoons butter or margarine until tender. Drain. Combine vegetables, macaroni, cheese, half-and-half, milk, salt, and pepper. Pour into a greased 1-quart casserole. Sprinkle with dry bread crumbs and dot with remaining 1 1/2 tablespoons butter or margarine. Bake for 30 minutes.
