Tres Bien French Onion Soup

Ingredients

2 cups thinly sliced onions
2 tablespoons butter
1 (32-ounce) carton beef broth
1 teaspoon Worcestershire
dash of pepper
4 slices French bread, toasted
3/4 cup shredded Swiss, Gruyère, or mozzarella cheese

Directions:

Sauté onions in butter in large saucepan over medium-low heat, covered, 8–10 minutes or till tender and golden, stirring occasionally. Stir in beef broth, worcestershire, and pepper. Bring to a boil; reduce heat. Cover and simmer 10 minutes. Place toasted bread on baking pan; sprinkle with shredded cheese. Place bread under broiler till cheese melts and turns light brown. Ladle soup into bowls and float bread on top, cheese side up.
