6 slices bread
1 cups water
2 pounds ground beef
1 pound ground pork or turkey sausage
2 eggs, beaten
1 onion, chopped
1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
2 (10 3/4-ounce) cans cream of mushroom soup
1 (8-ounce) container sour cream
1 cup milk
1 (1 1/2-ounce) package onion soup mix

Soak bread in water; tear into pieces. Combine meat, eggs, bread, onion and seasonings; form into 2-inch balls. Brown meatballs in a large skillet over medium heat, turning to cook evenly on all sides. Drain; transfer to a slow cooker and set aside. Combine remaining ingredients in a saucepan over low heat; stir until smooth. Cook until heated through and pour over meatballs. Cover and cook on low setting for 2 to 3 hours, stirring every 30 minutes.

Tip: Watch for old cast iron skillets at barn sales…they're worth their weight in gold. Often they just need a light scrub, then re-season by brushing lightly with oil and baking at 350 degrees for one hour. Let cool in the oven…all ready to use!
