Swiss Steak

Ingredients

2 pounds beef round steaks cut 1/2 -inch thick
All-purpose flour
3 to 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
1 onion large, chopped
1 green bell pepper large, chopped
1 cup celery chopped
2 (16-ounce) cans tomatoes diced
2 tablespoons flour
3 tablespoons water

Directions:

Heat oven to 350° F. Cut meat into serving pieces dust with flour. Put oil in a heavy skillet and sauté meat over high heat until brown. Add salt and pepper. Transfer to a 3-quart baking dish. Add vegetables cover and bake for 3 hours or until meat is very tender. Place the meat in a serving dish keep warm. Put vegetables back in skillet. Mix flour and water and add to vegetables stir and cook 3 to 4 minutes. Pour over meat.

Note: Mashed potatoes covered with the gravy goes well with this meat.
