Broiled Tomato Halves with Crumbs

Ingredients

4 teaspoons butter
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
1/8 teaspoon oregano crushed
1/8 teaspoon basil crushed
4 tomatoes
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Directions:

Melt butter (or margarine) and toss with dry bread crumbs, cheese, and herbs (thyme can also be used) set aside. Wash and half tomatoes. Arrange, cut side up, on oiled baking pan brush with oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Place pan under broiler broil for 4 to 5 minutes or until tomatoes are lightly colored and heated through. Sprinkle with crumb mixture and set in lower part of oven to keep warm until time to serve. Serve two halves each.

Variation
Baked Tomatoes: Prepare tomatoes as above, topping with crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 20 to 30 minutes.
