Triple-Chocolate Cherry Bars

   _ package Betty Crocker SuperMoist chocolate fudge cake mix
   _ (21-ounce) can cherry pie filling
   _ eggs, beaten
   ___ (12-ounce) bag miniature semisweet chocolate chips (1 cup)
   _ tub Betty Crocker Whipped chocolate ready-to-spread frosting or
   Creamy Chocolate Frosting (see Fabulous Frosting and Glazes chapter)


1- Heat oven to 350°. Grease bottom and sides of jelly roll pan, 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inch, with shortening; lightly flour.

2- Mix cake mix, pie filling, eggs and chocolate chips in large bowl with spoon. Pour into pan.

3- Bake 28 to 38 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely, about 1 hour. Frost with frosting. For bars, cut into 8 rows by 6 rows.

High Altitude (3500 to 6500 feet): No changes.

Triple-Chocolate Strawberry Bars: Substitute strawberry pie filling for the cherry.

Betty's Tip: Shiny metal pans are preferred for making bars because they reflect the heat away from the bars, preventing the crust from getting too brown and dark. If using dark nonstick or glass baking pans, follow the manufacturer's directions, usually reducing the oven temperature 25°.
