If you have a garnishing set that includes a food decorator tool or canalling knife, follow the given instructions. If those tools are unavailable, then you will find the following technique, taught to me by my mother, is quite simple and requires only a fork.
1 lemon
Using a fork, start at one end of the lemon, and move the fork down to the other end of the lemon, slightly piercing the skin. Repeat this process around the entire lemon. Remove the ends and cut the lemon into 1/4-inch thick slices. Make a slit by cutting through the peel and halfway into the flesh, and fit the slit over the rim of the glass.
