Fun Fact: The eagle was chosen June 20, 1782, as the emblem of our country, because of its long life, great strength and majestic looks, and also because it was then believed to exist on this continent only. Its image is on the Great Seal of the United States, and on the backs of our gold coins, the silver dollar, the half dollar and the quarter. Americans watch them with pride as they soar majestically over the tops of lofty mountains and above the valleys, representing our country’s boundless spirit of freedom.
