Sear the scallops in 1 tablespoon of oil in a skillet over high heat for 2 minutes on each side until they are golden brown. Remove the scallops to a dish and cover with foil to keep warm.
Cook the garlic over medium heat in the remaining oil until translucent. Add the tomatoes and thyme and cook stirring for 1 minute. Add the salt and pepper and stir well. Spoon the sauce over the scallops and garnish with basil and black olives.
