Crab Casserole

1/2 pound American cheese grated
1 (7 1/2-ounce) can crab meat
6 slices bread generously buttered
1 1/2 cups milk
1 egg beaten
1/2 teaspoon salt
dash black pepper


Make three layers in a buttered casserole of bread, crab, and cheese. Pour milk mixture over to cover about 2/3 (if not enough use a little more milk). Let set 3 hours or more. Cover and bake at 275° to 300° for 1 hour. Uncover the last few minutes to brown.
