Ingredients

2 edam cheese or Gouda cheeses, at room temperature
1 (8-ounce) package refrigerated crescent dinner roll
1 egg large, beaten
Sesame or caraway seeds or coarsely ground pepper
Wheat or rye crackers

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°. Lightly grease a baking sheet. Unwrap cheeses and remove wax covering.

Unroll crescent dough. Separate dough into two squares, pinching together perforations in each with moistened fingers.

Place one cheese in center of one square. Fold up dough to center enclosing the cheese. With moistened fingers, pinch edges to seal. Place sealed-side down on baking sheet. Repeat with remaining dough and cheese. Brush tops and sides with egg and sprinkle with seeds or pepper.

Bake 15 to 18 minutes until golden brown. (Do not overbake or cheese may melt through seams.) With a spatula, transfer to serving plates.

To serve, cut into small wedges. Serve warm with crackers.
