Apple Muffins

Ingredients

2 1/4 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon ground
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg ground
1/8 teaspoon cloves ground
6 tablespoons vegetable shortening solid vegetable or margarine
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup milk
1 cup apple pared, cored, and finely chopped
* Part two.
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon ground
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg ground

Directions:

Sift flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves together. Cream shortening or margarine and sugar add egg and beat well. Add flour mixture and milk alternately, stirring only until moistened. Fold in apples. Batter will be thick. Fill greased muffin cups 2/3 full. Prepare the following topping.

Topping:
*Combine topping ingredients sprinkle over batter. Bake in a preheated 400° F oven for 25 minutes.
