Fun Fact: The Ivy League is an athletic conference comprising eight private institutions of higher education in the Northeastern United States. The eight institutions are Brown University (Providence, Rhode Island), Columbia University (New York City), Cornell University (Ithaca, New York), Dartmouth College (Hanover, New Hampshire), Harvard University (Cambridge, Massachusetts), Princeton University (Princeton, New Jersey), the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), and Yale University (New Haven, Connecticut). Seven of the eight schools were founded during America's colonial period; the exception is Cornell, which was founded in 1865. The use of the phrase is not limited to athletics, and the term also has connotations of academic excellence.
