Pears

Serves: 5

Ingredients

Directions:

The pear has been cultivated for over 3000 years. It is picked before it is fully ripe because it doesn't ripen well on the tree. Refrigerated warehouses provide the perfect place for pears to ripen, instead. The pear is a member of the large rose family and it is related to the apple, apricot, and almond.

To choose one ripe, delicious pear, gently squeeze it at the skinny end. If it feels a little bit soft, you are almost assured you picked a sweet, juicy, ripe pear. Eat pears as soon as they are ripe because they spoil quickly after that point. Pears are a great source of fiber and contain potassium and copper.
