Orange Tabby Cake

Ingredients

1 2/3 cups vanilla or cream cheese ready-to-spread frosting or Buttercream Frosting
6 drops food colors yellow
2 drops food colors red
1 9-inch round cake layer
1 8-inch round cake layer
1 18 x 14-inch foil-covered cake board
1 (4 1/4-ounce) tube decorating icing chocolate, with outlining tip
semi-sweet mini chocolate chips
2 jelly beans green
1 jelly bean pink
1 1-inch length red licorice whip
2 2-inch lengths red licorice whip
6 3-inch lengths red licorice whip

Directions:

To prepare the frosting: Tint frosting with yellow and red food color until orange. Cover and set aside until ready to use.

To prepare the cakes: Brush loose crumbs from surface of cake layers with a soft pastry brush. Place the 9-inch cake layer on covered baking sheet. Cut 8-inch cake layer as shown and assemble cat. Fasten cakes together with frosting. Smoothly frost all surfaces with frosting.

To decorate the cake: Use the chocolate icing tube and draw lines for the eyes, legs and stripes. Fill in the ears. Fill in the stripes with mini chips. Use the green jelly beans for eyes and pink for the nose. Use the 1-inch and 2-inch lengths of red licorice for the mouth. Use the 3-inch lengths of red licorice for the whiskers.
