HOW DID BETTY GET HER NAME?

Directions:

When the Washburn Crosby Company (now General Mills) ran a contest in an ad in the Saturday Evening Post in 1921, the company got more than it bargained for. Along with the nearly thirty thousand correct responses, it received requests for recipes and advice about baking problems. Who best to respond to these letters? Company officials decided to create a fictitious woman to sign the responses. They chose the name "Betty" because it sounded friendly and "Crocker" to honor a popular company director, William C. Crocker.
