Carne con Papas (Potato-Beef Hash)

Ingredients

3 - 4 medium potatoes, cubed
3 tablespoons cooking oil
1 tablespoon salt
1/2 pound chuck steak, cubed
1 teaspoon mixed spices (peppercorns and cumin)
2 cloves garlic
1 can whole tomato
3 cups water

Directions:

Brown potatoes in oil and add salt. Add beef cubes to browned potatoes. Stir, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes. Grind spices and garlic and add a little water to mortar. Add spices, tomatoes, and water to meat and potatoes. Simmer 20 minutes.
