Fun Fact: On November 4, 2008, Barack Obama defeated John McCain in the general election and became the first African/American American to be elected president of the United States. In his victory speech, delivered before a crowd of hundreds of thousands of his supporters in Chicago's Grant Park, Obama proclaimed that “change has come to America.” Obama was the junior United States Senator from Illinois from 2005 until he resigned following his election to the presidency. He was inaugurated as the nation’s 44th president on January 20, 2009.
