Caramel Layer Brownies

Ingredients

1 (14-ounce) package caramels, unwrapped
2/3 cup evaporated milk, divided
1 (18 1/2-ounce) box German chocolate cake mix
3/4 cup butter, melted
1 cup chopped nuts
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions:

Heat caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk in a heavy saucepan, stirring until melted and smooth set aside. Combine cake mix, butter, remaining evaporated milk and nuts mix until just moistened. Press half of cake mixture into the bottom of a 13" x 9" baking pan that has been sprayed with non-stick vegetable spray bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes. Sprinkle with chocolate chips spread caramel mixture over the top. Flatten pieces of remaining dough with your hands and place over the caramel layer bake for 15 to 18 minutes. Cool slightly refrigerate for 30 minutes to firm caramel layer. Cut into bars to serve.
