Making Crumb Crusts

Serves: 0

Crumb mixtures for crusts need to be pressed firmly into the pie plate to make a sturdy, even layer. The easiest method is to spread the entire mixture lightly in the bottom of the plate. Then place a smaller pie plate over the crumbs and press them into place, easing the necessary amount up the sides to the rim. Press the crumbs firmly against the side of the pie plate. Some recipes do not require baking the crumb crust however, I always do because I think it holds up better. For easy serving, soak a towel in hot water, wring it out and place around the bottom of the pie plate for 1 or 2 minutes before slicing.
