Creative Trail Mix Ideas for Kids

The other day as I was trying to fall asleep, browsing Pinterest (one of my favorite wind down bed time activities) I came across the most adorable thing that I knew my kids (and any kids) would go crazy over. It was this cute zoo trail mix filled with all sorts of animals and other cute, yummy things.

Themed trail mix! Are you kidding me? That is so dang cute! I just think that anything fun and creative like this for kids is exciting and is like a fun surprise in every bite that would make flights, road trips, or family trips more fun for everyone.

I saw several more ideas for different "themes" for trail mixes so I wanted to share a few with you. Most of them are the perfect combination of sweet and salty that you and your kids love.

Zoo Trail Mix

This is a super cute idea for a going to the zoo snack, or a snack for a zoo-themed birthday party. You'll need:

  • Frosted Cheerios
  • Animal Crackers
  • Miniatrue Pretzels
  • Teddy Grahams
  • Fruit Snacks
  • Swedish Fish
  • Raisins

Mickey Mouse Trail Mix:

How cute would this Mickey Mouse Trail Mix be for an in-flight or road trip snack for your Disney vacation? It is so adorable I can hardly stand it! You'll need:

· Pretzels (they even sell Mickey Mouse shaped pretzels)

  • Raisins
  • Marshmallows
  • Chex
  • red and yellow M&M's
  • Peanuts (optional)

Fishing Trip or Trip to the Lake Trail Mix:

How cute would this one be on your drive to the lake to get your kids pumped up for their fishing/camping trip in the mountains? For this one you will want this:

  • 2 bags regular Chex Mix
  • 1 bag Bugles

· 1 bag Chocolate Chip Teddy Grahams {I couldn't find these, so I used Mini Chips Ahoy}

  • 1 bag Pretzel M&M's
  • 1 bag Licorice Bits
  • I bag Swedish Fish
  • 1 bag Goldfish crackers

Mix all ingredients in a bowl and enjoy!

Winnie the Pooh Trail Mix

Here is such a cute idea for a Winnie the Pooh Trail mix. You'll need:

  • Teddy Grahams-whatever flavors you like
  • Honey-roasted peanuts (Pooh Bear loves hunny!)

· Marshmallows-the creator of this concoction said her kids said the marshmallows reminded them of the clouds in the pooh stories.

· Pink, purple, red, brown, orange, yellow and light blue M&M's to represent Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga and Roo, Rigger, yellow Rabbit, Pooh's red shirt, Owl and Christopher Robin's blue shorts.

You can definitely brainstorm and come up with your own ideas for these trail mixes for any holiday or occasion. I thought of this mix that would be fun for Easter.

Harvest Hash Trail Mix

This is super cute for this time of year. You'll need:

  • Pretzels
  • Bugles chips
  • Honeycomb Cereal
  • Candy Corn
  • Candy Corn Pumpkins
  • Chex Muddy buddy
  • M&M's

· Other options ( nuts, marshmallows, popcorn, goldfish, Cheerios, craisins, chocolate chips)

Easter Trail mix:

Easter M&M's or jellybeans, Annie's brand bunny crackers (cheddar bunnies, bunny grahams, etc.) Cadbury mini eggs, Cheerios, coconut flakes.
