Cheater's Spaghetti

Serves 4


8 ounces uncooked spaghetti, preferably whole wheat
8 ounces lean ground beef (96% fat-free)
1/2 cup chopped onion
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 1/2 cups bottled spaghetti sauce
2 tablespoons dried basil
2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese (optional)

1. Cook pasta according to package directions, omitting any salt or fat.

2. Meanwhile, heat a nonstick saucepan over medium-high heat. Cook beef, onion, and garlic until onion is translucent, stirring frequently. Stir in spaghetti sauce and basil.

3. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover tightly, and simmer 10 minutes. Spoon over pasta and top with cheese, if desired.
