Sun Oven Smoker

The weather gave me a few extras days off from solar cooking after my vacation in Alaska but I still wasn’t in the mood to make anything too time consuming. Luckily I picked up a smoker bag as a souvenir. All I had to do was fill it with some pork ribs, close it up, cover it with a tea towel, and place it in the Sun Oven. The instructions on the package said it could be used in the oven or on the grill but didn’t specify how hot the oven should be. I decided to keep the Sun Oven at a lower temperature, between 250 and 300F, and let the meat slow cook. I’d almost forgotten about it when I got a waft of smoke as I walked by an open window. The meat came out tender and juicy, perfect for pulled pork sandwiches. I have no experience using a smoker of any kind so I can’t compare it with the real thing but the bag was fun to use and clean up was easy. I guess I’ll have to go back to Alaska for some more.
