Banana Split Smoothie |
|
There seems to be a "split" over who created the banana split. The people of Wilmington, Ohio, claim that restaurant owner Ernest Hazard created this special sundae during the winter of 1907 in order to attract students from nearby Wilmington College. On the other hand, the folks of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, say that an optometrist named Dr. David Strickler created the banana split at his pharmacy in 1904. Whoever invented it, we can all be grateful for this decadent treat that blends beautifully into a sensually delicious smoothie.
2/3 to 3/4 cup pineapple juice
1/2 cup partially frozen diced bananas
1/2 cup partially frozen diced pineapple chunks
1/2 cup partially frozen diced strawberries
1/2 cup banana split or favorite vanilla ice cream

Place all the ingredients in a blender and mix by using the on/off pulse function until the ingredients are mostly blended. Continue mixing, gradually increasing the speed, until the mixture is smooth. Pour the smoothie into a glass and garnish with a dollop of whipped cream and a cherry, if desired.
